Eptapyrgio

The independent fortress of Eptapyrgio used to be the citadel of Thessaloniki. It was the bastion of defense as the entire citadel housed both Eptapyrgio and a separate system of towers, gates and walls. Eptapyrgio was preserved by the Ottomans after the fall of the city in 1430 but it acquired a terrible reputation when it began being used as a prison. It became known as the notorious prison of Yedi Kule, a place of confinement and martyrdom throughout the 20th century.

Today, the place has been restored and preserved. It also offers a beautiful view of the whole city.

Thermi Dam

The dam of Thermi is particularly popular with visitors in the spring and summer as it offers peace and tranquility. Although in the past the place could only see a small number of visitors, in 1992 the Municipality of Thermi constructed a dam in the river bed of the stream.

The dam is located within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality of Thermi, specifically in Vathylakkos stream. It belongs to the catchment of Anthemounta where a water reservoir to enrich the area has been created. Eventually, the area was transformed into a highly aesthetic recreation area.
